Decent Laptop

Strengths: 17" WXGA High Definition Bright View Widescreen Display, Vista Home Premium, Large 160GB hard drive; integrated web Cam; AMD Turion 64x2 @ 1.6GHz

Weakness: Low battery life and operating system seems slow...and could have a better webcam.

This laptop ia vey powerful, but as configured by HP...it is very slow and frustrating.
The notebook looks ver nice from the exterior and interior. You will have to increase the RAM to 2GB and also configure the unit without the HP junk programs.

Then after customizing this laptop runs very decently for computing and surfing.

HP Resurgence

Strengths: Gorgeous, high gloss finish with many standard outputs. 17" Screen with brightview (reflective screen makes colors pop) Remote Control for Multimedia.

Weakness: Turion tl-52 relatively slow for Vista. 1gb standard ram relatively slow for Vista Geforce 6150 dedicated video weak. Easily scratched hinges. Max brightness is not that bright.

Love that HP has fought back to #1 spot and their line of glossy, shiny laptops are down right beautiful. For the retail price of $899 a 17" laptop is very affordable. Most of the components can be upgraded including the cpu, memory, hard drive (SATA). For durability go with a Thinkpad. For Core 2 go for Dell Vostro. For 17" multimedia, this would be a fine choice.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Pavilion dv9310us Notebook

Strengths: powerfull

Weakness: glossy screen

Great laptop. Powerfull, full of features. The only downside in my case - glossy screen. I like the new design of hp pavilion laptops. Although they are not IBM, they don't cost like similarly equiped IBM.

HP DV9310us

Strengths: screen size, style

Weakness: none

Great laptop. Has usb firewire dvdrw with dual layer support s-video out beutifull 17" screen. Other then it's weight, nothing to complain about. The only downside - Windows Vista. I had to downgrade to WinXP.
Under Vista my machine would not wake up after it went to sleep, however if I had a microsoft wireless optical mouse connected - it woudn't go to sleep. I have other HP laptop with Vista on it and it doesn't have this problem. Not sure what to blame here, maybe AMD? Anyway, I installed XP with sp2 and latest updates and I coudn't be happier.

Thanks.

Pavilion dv9310us Notebook

Strengths: 17" WXGA

Weakness: heavy

Nice laptop if you are want a 17" and are on the budget. Intel based ones are probablly a few hundred $$ more. Comes with remote control, to make your dvd viewing even more fun. I think 1gb RAM is enough for internet surfing and word processing. For other programs, it's probably a good idea to double it

HP DV9310us

Strengths: nice display, features

Weakness: a bit heavy. Keyboard layout is a bit different

Very nice notebook. There's nothing really to complain about, other then the keyboard layout. I wish all keyboards were standard, like PC keyboards were in 90s. Switching between laptops is not a joy if you are a fast typist.
